Prolonged Neurological Disorders In Covid-19 Sufferer
In December 2019, a novel Corona virus resulted in the outbreak of a deadly disease known as Covid-19. Since then life of the people everywhere across the globe has changed drastically. A huge number of infections were reported across the globe as the virus was severely contagious. Many casualties were reported as a substantial number of patients got extremely ill after catching the virus.
Suffering of Neuro Patients
Apart from the ones who left us behind, the life of the people who caught the virus and were able to fight with it successfully were also left with some very serious and complicated problems. The patients were facing neurological disorders months after beating the virus. Incredibly a large number of reports have suggested that there is deterioration in the proper supervision of the patients suffering with neurological disorders due to extra demands from health care system. A majority of people after being discharged from the hospital were facing anxiety, depression, fatigue and sleep problems.
Some Latest Findings on Covid-19 after Effects
Out of the primary few studies on COVID-19 neurology, it was concluded that patients in the neurological symptom group experienced over time noteworthy anxiety, depression, fatigue, and sleep problems as measured by standard phone questionnaires, including the National Institutes of Health Patient. The patients, who were facing neurological disorders even before the virus, were also facing consequential symptoms. A survey showed that approximately 94 percent of patients with initial symptoms had atypical symptoms compared to 88 percent unescorted by original neurological disorders. The onset of the disease has marked some very prolonged issues in a person’s body. There are plenty of patients who are not able to return back to their normal routines, due to the post covid side effects. As the time passed by, these issues were escalated and patients were unable to cope up with their physical and mental state. In a research conducted by NYU Grossman School of Medicine, it was also revealed that over 90 percent of patients who were diagnosed showed symptoms of neurological disorders within 6 months of their discharge.
Various Neurological Disorders
While neurological symptoms group had a multi fold increase in reduced ability to do their normal household chores, even difficulty in walking much in contrast with non symptoms group who aren’t facing that much. But the mortality rate was almost same for both type of patients, and the patients average is close to 68. Even though it’s still a matter of research for scientists to analyze the long term effects of Covid-19 but as far as the study which has been done already, on the basis of that its quite clear that there are enormously high rates of cognitive impairments in patients within 6 months . Ischaemic stroke, nerve root, plexus disorders and dementia are some of the few wrenching disorders that patients suffer after some time. “This is the first study, to our knowledge, to assess long-term neurological function among COVID-19 hospital survivors in a standardized fashion using a variety of outcome measures”, these are the words by senior study author Steven L.Galetta, MD, chair of the department of neurology at NYU Langone.
